He’s back! My husband left Bakersfield around midnight arriving home tired and content.
He shared some stories (Hall H fiasco! Pan de sol from the talented Liza! Sold out all the crime books and most of the Moonlight Cutter books!). When he wakes up and finishes unpacking, he’ll fill in more details. I’ll share what goss I can in the coming days.
My husband has been a exhibitor at Comic Con every year since 1997, including the Covid virtual years. He attended as a regular fan when it was 150 people at the El Cortez (his aunt was the cool aunt. Rest in peace Aunt Lindy.). The trek to San Diego and back is his yearly sojourn, his way to stay in touch with family and friends in Bakersfield on the way down and back. At the show, he reconnects with his fans old and new, as well as budding artists and writers looking for a little advice from an old timer. He loves being there, hates the load in and load out more every year. He loves coming home to chilly San Francisco after a sweaty week of nonstop stimulation.
He’s as crazy as I am 🙂
He never takes pictures, but I’ve included some YouTube videos from this year that will give you the flavor.
While he was gone I packed five boxes of books for the Friends of the San Francisco library yet barely made a dent in my office bookshelves. I cleaned the coffee pot. I removed things from the garage that were a week away from becoming new life forms, all trying to fill in the space left behind by a man who writes, and draws, and tells stories compulsively, all while keeping a weather eye on the health of our cat and me.
I was happy for the time and space alone, being an introvert, but oh I am so happy he is back.
In these times, feeling that “all is well” is rarer than it used to be. But today, starting at 4:37 AM, I just couldn’t shake the feeling that for a day or two, all really is well for us.
